Amsonia hubrichtii is an upright, clump forming plant with thread-leaf foliage. In late May, cluster of small (1/2") blue star-like flowers appear at the ends of stalks. In fall, the foliage turns bright yellow for late season interest. Performs best in full sun, but can benefit from some late afternoon shade. In part shade it may be susceptible to opening up and flopping. It is recommended to trim flower stalks by 6" after blooming to keep the plant from flopping. (This plant may violate our rule about pruning, staking and maintenance, but we will tolerate it for the spring flowers and fall foliage.)
