Calamagrostis is a tall ornamental grass with sturdy, flat green leaves suitable for the back of the border in a sunny garden location. It will tolerate some light shade, especially in the afternoon. In July-August, tall, fetching, feathery flower stems appear above the leaves. This is a relatively new plant in our garden, and so far ha remained well-behaved. We are reluctant to plant many ornamental grasses in our garden, as many can become thugs, spreading rampantly and leaving tough, thick roots in their wake.
