Senna is a somewhat rare and underappreciated plant in the perennial garden. Senna is a large, erect plant with stout stems upon which rows of attractive green oval leaves (similar to locust) grow. In August, spikes of bright yellow flowers with brownish eyes form at the ends of stems. The spent flowers turn into thin, hairy seedpods in fall. An unusual specimen plant for the back of the border. Deer don’t like it, which is a bonus.
