Weigela is a deciduous shrub that forms a rounded mass of foliage that is topped with pinkish funnel-shaped flowers in midsummer. 'Verweig' (also known as 'My Monet') is a dwarf (20" H x 24" W) version that has variegated green, white, and pink foliage. Its flowers are pink. 'Bokraspiwi' (also known as the more pronounceable 'Spilled Wine') has dark purple leaves and hot pink flowers. It is a slightly larger (36" H x 36" W) variety. 'Electric Love', a 2021 addition, is a low-growing variety (12"H x 26" W) with maroon-green leaves and red flowers. Weigelas are quite tolerant of hard pruning to maintain shape and size. The flowers are quite showy. In three years in our garden, deer or other pests have not bothered our Weigelas.
